I want to increase my jogging/sprinting speed, but I don’t want to have to constantly jog or sprint daily.
I also want to increase my mile time, but, again, I don’t want to jog on a daily basis.

No problem.
Just increse your mileage gradually and the speed will come over time.

you have to jog daily to improve. theres no other way.

I would not recommend running every day – have a day off and that gives your legs time to recover and repair any damages done to them.

Improving takes hard work but maybe not lots of time, when you go out running you work hard during the session then the next day relax.

To increase your mile speed I would train to run more than a mile – perhaps 3 miles but at a slower pace than your mile speed. This gives you stamina which means that you don’t get tired after running a mile – so you can go at a higher pace all the way. Make these stamina building sessions last about half an hour long of just a long run, in fact if you want to work at running , make all the training sessions half an hour long.

To increase your speed you can do short repeated fast runs. So if your goal is a fast mile, run 1/4 mile as fast as you can – faster than your mile pace and this gets your body used to moving quicker. Rest afterwards and repeat

Another session you can do is ‘Fartlek’ where you jog then sprint then jog then sprint over a run. Make the changes of speed say every time you pass a lamp post, or every minute or something.

To increase your speed I would suggest a couple or 3 hard training sessions a week if you have the time and just work hard at getting faster.

Hi,
You don’t have to run every day at all. What to do is change one of your jogging days to a “session”. This means, instead of a normal run – perhaps find a good sized steep hill – and run up that about ten times. It’s tough, but its amazing how that can improve your running!

1. Interval training.
2. Tempo run’s at specified speed.

Ahh phooey……listen you do NOT have to run everyday to increase speed. Don’t listen to these so called critics. Run at least 3 or 4 days out of the week and I would recommend a personal trainer to help push you. And so someone can time you and monitor improvement. Do your thing and good luck!!

You do not need to run every day: 4 times a week will do. You need to build stamina, speed etc. During each of run work on specific skills (long runs develop stamina)…Oh yeah: running 10 times up a hill won’t do…Running up hill does not engage the same muscles as running on flat ground…Actually an experienced runner knows that running uphills is in fact a “resting” period…Anyway check out active.com or runner’s world and either site contains a gold mine of info on improving your running skills
