At how many months can I start taking long walks with my baby?Do I need a jogging stoller?
I will be walking for exercise.Im not sure if the other strollers are light enough or as durable as a jogging stroller.

My Graco is fine for excercise. Not great for jogging though – but I’m not up for that yet, anyway!
Strollers are made better now than they used to be, so you don’t have to have a jogging stroller (if you’re just going to walk). As soon as your body has healed is when you can start walkin
My baby and I were taking walks at about two weeks. It was the middle of winter so our walks were at the mall. But, you don’t really need a jogging stroller. We use a front carrier or wrap, but if you want to use a stroller just a plain old one will do unless you are running.
I would consider a sling or carrier though if you are walking for exercise. Carrying baby makes for a great upper body workout.
You only need to wait until your body has healed after delivery. Mabye 2 weeks before you can go out on walks. Just go as far as you feel comfortable at the beginning. You can take longer walks later. If you’re just walking I wouldn’t bother with a jogging stroller. The baby will be just fine in a regular stroller. And pushing the additional weight of the stroller is great for your workout. If you do decide to start running though, then a jogging stroller is best. They have a nice smooth ride.
Most doctors recommend waiting at least 6 weeks before exercising. Wait until you’ve had your check up to make sure your doctor clears you for exercise. Although it would be fine to do some very light and easy walking earlier.
I think the answer to your first question really depends on your baby. When will he/she be ready for a long walk? Some babies like it, some do not. For me, I started walking with my son for about 45 minutes when he was 10 weeks old. We did this every day.
I liked what a previous poster said about wearing your baby (with a sling or carrier). This is such a great calories burner! Having that extra weight on you really helps. I carried my son like this until he was six months old and then he was too heavy to carry.
As for what kind of stroller you need. Yes! Get a jogging or walking stroller! I used my Graco for awhile, but when I switched to a jogging stroller, it was so much better! They are so much easier to push uphill or on uneven surfaces. They also have safety features like a hand brake or a safety leash to make it safer while you walk.
You don’t need to spend a lot of money on a jogging/walking stroller. Check out craigslist or your local thrift store.
Have fun! I created a web page all about stroller walking because I love it so much. So if you’re interested take a look at the link I provided below.
Have fun!
